NEC establishes "Cyber Security Factory" - Defending businesses against cyber attacks -

***For immediate use 23 April 2013

Hong Kong – April 23, 2013 – NEC recently established a new unit known as the "Cyber Security Factory." The new CSF is designed to support the deployment and operation of solutions that protect businesses and government offices against cyber attacks.

To expose threats, and support the measures that organizations can take against cyber attacks, NEC already provides its "Incident Visualization Solution," "Targeted Attack Inspection Service," and the "Utra-High-Speed Analysis Platform: InfoFrame DWH Appliance.”

Now, with the creation of the CSF, NEC is leveraging its security experience to provide customers with a single service package that includes the installation of its cyber attack counter-measure systems as well as operational support.

“CSF solutions enable customers to learn about threatening conditions by themselves and to prepare internal security observation systems that serve as a development base for solutions to defend against new cyber attacks,” said Elsa Wong, Managing Director, NEC Hong Kong.

Moreover, in a bid to further strengthen the global fight against cyber-crime, NEC recently formed a partnership with Interpol. NEC is providing the global police body with vital assistance in developing core elements of a Digital Crime Centre that is being established within the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation.

Under the three-year agreement, NEC will provide technical and human resources worth some €7.6 million to establish a Digital Forensic Lab and Cyber-Fusion Centre within INTERPOL’s Digital Crime Centre. Providing national authorities with operational support against digital crime, the Centre will be the driving force of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation which will open in Singapore in 2014.

“Fighting cyber-crime requires that law enforcement at the national and international level work with the private sector and forward-thinking technology leaders such as Japan’s NEC in order to keep pace with today's cyber-criminals,” said Wong.

NEC’s expertise in the security field also includes facial recognition technology, where the company has performed research for more than 20 years. The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recognized it as number one in the Multiple Biometric Evaluation 2010.

“Facial recognition is a fantastic tool, both for security and customer relationship development. For example, banks, the hospitality sector and even prestigious residential developments can deploy the technology to allow authorized people – such as staff or VIP customers – to enter sensitive or private areas, and keep everyone else out,” said Wong.

“Law enforcement and border control agencies can also use the technology to monitor locations and free officers for more hands-on duties,” she added.
