NEC recognized by Capital as an Outstanding Biometric Security Solutions Provider - Awards recognise NEC Hong Kong’s skill in deploying its biometric solutions into complex business environments -

Hong Kong – March 15, 2013 – NEC Hong Kong Limited (NEC) announced that it won the Capital Outstanding Enterprise Award for “Outstanding Biometric Security Solutions Provider,” presented at the Island Ballroom, Island Shangri-La Hong Kong on 11 March 2013.

The 13th Capital Outstanding Enterprise Awards recognize the excellent performance of corporations and commend their contributions to Hong Kong’s economy. There are a total of 29 prizes in different categories and all winners are strictly evaluated by a team of professional judges, an editorial team and public online voting according to 5 selection criteria: company reputation; corporate governance, operation management, market positioning, business achievement as well as corporate social responsibility.

The Trophy of Outstanding Biometric Security Solutions Provider

NEC’s facial and fingerprint recognition solutions have been recognized as the world’s fastest and most accurate biometric technologies for identification. “We would like to express our deep thanks for this recognition to NEC,” said Elsa Wong, Managing Director of NEC Hong Kong. “Our solutions have been adopted by the government and large enterprises in Hong Kong for many years. We will keep improving our core competence, not only in biometric security solutions, but also other business solutions which empower and contribute to people and society.”

NEC is also an early pioneer in facial recognition technology, performing research in this category for more than 20 years. It was recognized by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as number one in the Multiple Biometric Evaluation 20101. The company believes facial recognition has a wide range of commercial applications. In the coming years, NEC aims to provide the solution to more corporations in order to make full contribution towards Hong Kong’s economic stability and prosperity.

*1 Multiple Biometric Evaluation (MBE) 2010 is a NIST sponsored national level project for multiple biometric modalities. The primary goal of the MBE is to investigate, test and improve performance of face and iris recognition technology on both still and video imagery through a series of "challenge" problems and evaluation.
